A three-hour web site outage occurred on January 31, 2009
We would like to apologize to our users for a site outage that occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2009.
This was caused by our hosting service being the subject of a malicious and significant Denial of Service attack.
Our hosting service, eNom.com, is one of the world’s largest and most respected domain name registrars. Their servers support 11+ million domain names for very large and respected firms, as well as our Corning United web site.
On January 31, all eNom servers experienced a technical problem that started at approximately 3:00pm EST, and lasted until about 6:30pm. Throughout this time the Corning United web site was unavailable to users. This issue lasted a little more than three hours, and eNom has assured it’s clients that this will not happen again. We hope they are correct.
We just want you to know that this problem was no reflection of us. We apologize if you were trying to access the sites on January 31 and had difficulties. Based on industry benchmarks, quality and support, eNom is the #1 registrar and we remain confident in their service.
