Corning Soccer matches a mixed bag

The Corning United Soccer Club played matches throughout the Southern Tier.

Sunday, June 1, at Clute Park, Watkins Glen
U-14 Boys: Corning United - 0, Schuyler - 1

The Corning U-14 boys dropped a key game over the weekend, losing a 1-0 contest at Clute Park to the Schuyler Scorpions. Corning peppered the Scorpions goal with 17 shots, but were unable to score. Nick Davis and Sean Marx led the offensive attacks for Corning. Raphael Gollier was outstanding in sweeper for the U-14 boys.

U-19 Girls: Corning United - 3, Ithaca - 1

The Corning United U-19 girls team beat the Ithaca Twisters 3-1. Nicole Gerrish Bondellio had two goals and Jessica Stack had one. Meryl Dann had two assists.

Sunday, June 1, at Legion Field, Chenango Forks
U-19 Boys: Corning United - 0, Empire Explosion - 2

The Corning United U-19 boys team went down to their fifth defeat of the season, after battling the Empire Explosion equally for most of the match. The score was 0-0 at the half, but Empire broke away in the first minute of the second half to take the lead with a quick goal. No other scores were made until the last ten minutes, when Empire scored a second time on a strong shot to the upper corner of the goal. Ryan Ignascewski, the Corning United keeper had 17 saves, and his teammates Cody Fitzsimmons, Jacob Immerman, Ben Sidebottom, Marco DeLiso, Andrew Little and Ben Glaesemann made strong showings.
